Standard work is simply the best way to do a particular task or a process. ‘Best’ means consistent, meeting customer requirements, efficiency, and safety. Standard work is a philosophy of continuous, ongoing improvements and it should be included in all work areas.

Use: It is important that once the best practice has been identified, these practices need to be documented and adhered to consistently over time. A good example of standard work can be seen when watching a pitch crew in action at a NASCAR or an IndyCar race. Imagine how much time would be lost if every time a car stopped at their designated area on pit road and the team had no standard work methodology. They would be tripping over each other, getting hurt and some things might get missed such as forgetting to put the lug nuts on one of the wheels. If you ever watch one of these crews, they go through exactly the same routine each and every time they service a car. This is the epitome of Standard Work.
